Circulation Information
Students are allowed to checkout one book at a time.
Teachers may check out as many books as needed. Creating book baskets is encouraged! Due dates for teachers are flexible.
Books and materials in the general collection are checked out for 1 week.  If a child doesn't finish reading a book they can renew it up to two times.

Fines and Damages
Fees are not charged for overdue items.
Replacement costs will be charged for all damaged or lost library materials.
Books may not be checked out if a child has an overdue book.

Behavior Expectations:

Library media center expectations are as follows:

1. We respect others and their property.
2. We keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves at all times. 
3. We follow directions.
4. We are responsible for our own actions.



Dear Parents:


The purpose of this letter is to inform you that our 2016-2017 Reading Counts school- wide reading program will officially kick-off or begin on 9-5-2016. Our Reading Counts Theme for this academic year is, Go for the Gold! This motivational reading program is designed to encourage our 3rd through 5th grade students to read at their own pace and be rewarded for their efforts. For each quiz passed, students earn points based on the point value of the book they read. As students earn more points, they receive rewards when a Reading Counts point milestone is reached. Prizes are awarded to students once per nine weeks during Reading Counts Prize Week at the students’ library times. Students earning highest number of points in their class, grade-level, and school-wide will be recognized and awarded at up-coming awards ceremonies.


The purpose of the Reading Counts Program is to encourage children to practice reading. As with any activity, practice is needed for improvement. The program is to be used as a supplement to the teacher’s classroom reading program. There are three basic steps the child needs to do for successful participation in the Reading Counts program:


1. The child chooses a book to read that is part of the Reading Counts program and is in the child’s independent reading level. Students select a book based on their Lexile level and interests. They can choose from a wide variety of topics, including animals, sports, science fiction, history, humor, and more! To help determine a child’s independent reading level the Scholastic Reading Counts program comes with a computerized reading test known as SRI, Scholastic Reading Inventory. Most of the students will take the test and it is most helpful. Using the results of the test, the teacher then determines the independent reading level and informs the child of his/her book color/lexile/reading level. 

2. The child reads the book for comprehension (understanding of the story). 

3. The child takes a computerized quiz of 10 comprehension questions, hoping to score at least 7 out of 10. Teachers monitor student’s success and efforts in this program via various student data reports to help inform and differentiate instruction. The reports also let teachers know when a student is struggling and needs intervention. 

            Parents, please assist your child in becoming a Reading Counts Program success by making sure that they read for at least 20 minutes daily each evening and encouraging them to take their Reading Counts Quizzes seriously.
