Today, 4 out of 5 South Carolina fourth graders from low-income families cannot read at grade level. Last year, 24% of freshman High School students were reading at or below a fourth grade level. Without strong literacy skills, Lake City’s outlook for the future is bleak.

Reading Partners is committed to ensuring that the Lake City Community can look forward to a bright future. Working closely with Florence County School District 3 leaders, the philanthropic community, and families, Reading Partners serves Two Title I elementary schools in this District. In the Charleston/Lake City region we currently work with over 600 students thanks to over 700 community volunteers who give their time every week to ensure success for budding young readers.

We are currently seeking volunteer tutors that can commit to 1hr twice a week in Lake City Early Childhood Center as well as Main Street Elementary . Please feel free to contact by calling the school or stopping by our Reading Center Located in room 221.
