Welcome MSE Panther Cubs!

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school term! The faculty and staff of Main Street Elementary are looking forward to working with you to make this year rewarding for your child. We are dedicated to creating processes and procedures that will ensure the success of all of our students. At Main Street, we are “Inspiring World Class Learners by Providing World Class Instruction”.  We plan to accomplish this by partnering with you, our parents, to improve academic achievement.

We will continue to have a strong focus on improving literacy skills among our students. Our school schedule has been arranged to afford time for greater small group instruction and independent reading, both of which research has shown to increase students’ reading skills. We also have built in time to review skills with students who may need more assistance and time to push those students who have already mastered the learning target. You can help us in achieving our goal of ensuring academic success for all of our students by:

  • Making sure that your child is at school on time. School starts at 7:40a.m. Students are considered tardy at 7:50a.m. Breakfast ends at 7:40 a.m. No breakfast bars will be provided.
  • Ensure that your child reads at least 20 minutes per night. Every student at MSE has a standing homework assignment to read for 20 minutes nightly. Please assist us by making sure that you child reads and complete his/her response journal.
  • Check your child’s agenda nightly. The students will record all of their homework assignments and teachers will provide you with behavioral updates in the students’ agendas. In addition, if need be, teachers will write short notes to you if there is a concern with your child and you in return are able to  write to your child’s teacher.
  • Please be mindful that outside food is not allowed. Our lunchbox carriers may continue to bring in their lunch. However, students cannot bring in candy, chips, cookies, soft drinks, and etc. for snack.
  • Teachers are unable to hold parent conferences during their instructional time. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please plan to schedule a time during their planning or before or after school. This policy is in place to ensure that instructional time is protected.

We have an open door policy at MSE and we invite you to come in and share your thoughts and ideas. My contact information is listed at the top of this letter. Let’s work to make this school term one of great success!

Best Regards,

Shemmicca Moore, Ed.D.
